I recently played a show with a gentleman named Joseph Murphy who goes by Twin Cats. We exchanged some music and his cd is going to be in immediate and heavy rotation. Here's two songs that go back to back on the record, trust me on this one... this music is rich. It's red house painters meets Mojave 3... it's folk shoegaze, it's chamber pop... it's whatever you want to call it really... beautiful sad pop... lets make up a genre that is more fitting.
Take a listen if you can, I think it's great. Check out more of his work http://imaginetwincats.com/
Where have you gone, Eagle-Eye Cherry?: A tribute to terrible late '90s hits
The Onion AV club has put together a collection of awful radio-pop from the late 90s. And I know every single one of them like the back of my hand. Someday this will make me really cool, like when they release the "AWESOME LATE 90s" pack for rockband. Also, someone with a serious music collection please muxtape this.
Additionally, they totally forgot my favorite late 90s band, Eve 6!
Picked up a new wallet at the maker faire on saturday from a little company called tinymeat. Similar to the poketo wallets of yore but these ones look a bit sturdier!
So Ludo fills a niche genre in music that I usually don't listen to. However where bands like Panic at the Disco, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, etc have never begged repeat listens... ludo always makes me come back. So I guess they are currently my "power-pop-rock" choice. I Like them for a whole bunch of reasons, their music is clean and straightforward... it's not re-writing any norms, and that's important. The lyrics however are a different story. Nearly every song is laced with a sarcasm and wit that pokes fun at themselves and everyone else. I've always loved when a band knows when to take themselves seriously, and when to not. Ludo walks that very thin line through every verse, hook, and bridge. I'd also encourage looking into the Broken Bride EP... it's a story album about time traveling to try and save a dead lover... there's songs about fighting undead armies and pterodactyls. It's awesome. So this song is off of the record "You're Awful, I Love You" and it's great... it's not even the highlight of the record, but right now it's my favorite, and it's the first song I heard off the album.
Cold and wrathful
Silent sleeper
I've been inside your bedroom
I've murdered half the town
Left you love notes on their headstones
I'll fill the graveyards
Until I have you
Moonlight walking
I smell your softness
Carnivorous and lusting
To track you down among the pines
I want you stuffed into my mouth
Hold you down and tear you open
Live inside you
Oh, love I'd never hurt you
But I'll grind against your bones
Until our marrows mix
I will eat you slowly
Ohhhhh
The horror of our love
Never so much blood pulled through my veins
Ohhhhh
The horror of our love
Never so much blood
I wake in terror
Blackbirds screaming
Dark cathedrals spilling
Midnight on their alters
I'm your servant
My immortal
Pale and perfect
Such unholy heaving
The statues close their eyes
The room is changing
Break my skin
And drain me
Ancient language
Speak through fingers
The awful edges
Where you end and I begin
Inside your mouth
I cannot see
There's catastrophe
In everything I'm touching
As I sweat and crush you
And I hold your beating chambers
Until they beat no more
You die like angels sing
Ohhhhh
The horror of our love
Never so much blood pulled through my veins
Ohhhhh
The horror of our love
Never so much blood
You're a ghost, love
Nightgown flowing
Your body blue and walking
Along the continental shelf
You are a dream among the sharks
Beautiful and terrifying
Living restless
We dance in dark suspension
And you bury me
In the ocean floor beneath you
Where they'll never hear us scream
Ohhhhh
The horror of our love
Never so much blood pulled through my veins
Ohhhhh
The horror of our love
Never so much blood
